Smiley

By Marlex Cantor

Careful he was with his words
Picked the best lines only
for her number one girl
But one day, he slipped
Blurted a wrong phrase
She didn’t like it at all!

So now he’s combing
for what to say, how to say
he never meant to
hurt her badly
He wants to fix things straight

Wait, she’s here, at his face
What now? What will he say?
No words are coming out
of his nervous brain
except

Colon
Hyphen
Close parenthesis

Wait, look now at her face
The frown is melting away
What words can’t seem to do
suddenly just happened
Because

Colon
Hyphen
Close parenthesis
are all it takes sometimes
to put the smile back
on someone’s face.
